One of my favorite designers

...is Victoria Johnson. Read more about her here.

This is what I wish for all my friends and loved ones.

Socks for Miss Noble

Miss Noble is one of my colleagues who works with special education students in Mr. Jackson's class. She admired my socks one day, and I offered to make her a pair. She picked the yarn, and here they are.

The decs are up

Tiny Ikea tree
The stockings were hung by the radiator with care.

Stella di Notte cookies

Chocolate shortbread from Trader Joe's. You must go now!

Cats are weird

This is my friend's cat, Sky, and she likes to sleep in the sink. Anna thinks this is a good idea. She even covered the cat up with her blankie.
What you don't know is that there are dozens of cat beds, some of them heated, all over Anna's house.
I like cat people.

Hmong New Year in Minnesota

We saw a lot of people in costumes on the streets of St. Paul, going to the festivities at the River Center.

We didn't know what it was about until  later.

More from the weekend

The much-researched cocktail was a cranberry/ginger beer mule. Yum!
Mom, Beth, Will, Dad, me, Carl.

Will solved this puzzle at the Science Museum.

The edges of White Bear Lake were frozen, and Will picked up this piece; it was almost 2 inches thick.

T-Day

Pomegranate seeds were a zingy part of our fancy salad.
My sister made four fabulous pies.
I didn't know!

This is an experiment

I want to share a student-created slideshow from Google Drive by providing a link:
Click here to go to the slideshow.
When you're in Drive, click on PRESENT on the top right of the screen.
Each slide has a voiceover recording, so you might have to wait a second or two for the voice to load. Some of the slides are very short videos.
If you're viewing on a device other than a computer, you may have to tap the red and white play arrow to start each voice recording or video.
Please leave me a comment ON THE BLOG so we can determine if this works, or not! Thanks!

The big project is underway

Our goal is to fold 1000 paper cranes for good luck, health, prosperity and long life.
So far, we have 120 folded, and 880 to go.

Sixth Graders Learn to Doodle in a big way

These are two of our favorite Lunch Bunch students. We started out learning mandala doodling with gel pens on paper, and now they're taking off with the idea.

Front Door

My landlord and his family carved these jack-o-lanterns and put them out front.

Vocabulary Parade

Instead of celebrating Halloween, our school had costumes and a dance to celebrate vocabulary words. My ESL students did a wonderful job.

Mr. D's class each had their own word.

Ms. D's class word was UNISON.              My word was origami
The dancing was great.

These are two Egyptian princesses.

We are starting a project.

Our goal is to fold one thousand origami cranes.
This is the first of 25 strings of forty paper cranes.
We have 960 more birds to fold.
