Yesterday was field day!

Arwa and her sister Fatima tried on my hat and sunglasses. I spent the day helping kids throw beanbags through hula hoops. I think it was the first time in my life that I had fun on field day. We had great weather and the kids had a good time.

It's Spring in Room 35A!

The kids and I have been making a variety of paper flowers to decorate the room. They also used the flowers to make Mother's Day cards. Their cards were a big seller at the Special Ed. craft fair!

See what 8th grade made!

First, we did monoprinting to paint the paper. Then, we cut it into squares, and learned how to fold origami cranes. Then they strung them on yarn and voilà: beautiful hanging cranes to bring good luck, good health, and long life. All the students in this class have special needs, so this was a really exciting project to see them finish.

Look what came in the mail today!

Straight from Riga, Latvia. This is what happens when you go on eBay at two in the morning.

Sasha is on my lap!

This is very unusual for him. Since I adopted him he will sit next to me, but never on my lap. It's so nice to have a warm furry purring person sitting on your lap while you read or knit. Maybe he's finally getting socialized!

We're in Brooklyn eating pelmeni from a Russian restaurant. It's 45 and cloudy. We have hot tea in our thermoses.

ESOL students learned to make origami 3-D stars!

The 2nd and 8th graders made a total of 96 stars, some with glitter glue, and fancy foil papers. We estimated the total number of stars, and the closest estimator will get a prize.
